Braves sign 11 to 2010 contracts
Lake Buena Vista, FL (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Braves agreed to terms with 11 players Wednesday on one-year contracts for the 2010 season.
Among the signings were 2009 contributors pitchers Manny Acosta, Jesse Chavez, James Parr and Jo-Jo Reyes, along with outfielder Gregor Blanco and catcher Clint Sammons.
Chavez, a righty reliever, appeared in 73 games last season for Atlanta and posted a 4.01 earned-run average and 1-4 record over 67 1/3 innings.
Acosta, also a right-hander, bounced between the minors and big league club last year and pitched to a 4.34 ERA with a 1-1 mark in 36 games out of the pen.
The left-handed Reyes started 22 games for the Braves in 2008 and was roughed up to the tune of a 5.81 ERA and 3-11 record. He came back to make five starts in 2009, and was 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA in six appearances overall.
Parr was also used sparingly last season, seeing time in eight games out of the bullpen where the righty had a 5.79 ERA.
Blanco was brought up from the minors for a spell in 2009 and hit .186 in 24 games from early June to mid-July. Sammons had a .182 average in just six games last year.
Also inked to deals on Wednesday were pitchers Kyle Cofield, Jeff Lyman, Steve Marek, Todd Redmond and Jonny Venters. Neither of the five have experienced major league service.
