LSU has looked impressive in both of their wins and are 2-0 while Mississippi State (1-1) was upset last week losing to Auburn getting stuffed at the goal line to end the game. MSU must play better run defense than they did last week when they gave up 235 rushing yards to Auburn. Last season at LSU the Bulldogs were mauled by the Tigers losing 29-7.

In their last games LSU killed Northwestern State 49-3 while MSU was upset losing to Auburn 41-34. LSU has owned MSU in the last decade and has not lost to the Bulldogs since was back in 1999.

This season Mississippi State is 1-1 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 2-0 and LSU is also 1-1 ATS and an O/U record of 1-1. LSU has covered the spread in 7 of their last 8 games against the Bulldogs at MSU and in the last 7 games between these 2 SEC rivals the posted total has gone Over.

LSU has the 12th ranked defense in the nation and they will have their hands full facing a MSU rushing offense that ranks 6th in the nation. Bulldogs RB Vick Ballard and QB Chris Relf combined to rush for 241 yards in last week’s loss to Auburn and they will have to run the ball well against a LSU run defense that held Northwestern State to -4 rushing yards last week.

Relf passed for 195 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT in last week’s loss and while the strength of the Bulldogs is the rushing attack he will have to complete some passes so the LSU defense does not stack the line to just stop the run.

LSU played an all around good game on offense in their easy win over Northwestern State with 225 passing yards and 175 rushing yards. Jarrett Lee was 9/10 passing for 133 yards with 1 TD and the Bulldogs have to get to him and not allow him to find his targets.

RB Michael Ford is the big gun in the LSU backfield and so far this season he is averaging a legit 6.2 yards per carry. Ford is joined in the backfield by a couple of other solid backs and MSU must play well against them or they will get killed. If the Tigers can control the ground game they will have no problems winning this game.

In some betting trends for this SEC match up LSU is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as a favorite, 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games as a road favorite, and has an Over record of 6-0 in their last 6 games as a road favorite of 3.5-10 points.

MSU is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS loss, and has an Over record of 4-1 in their last 5 games.
