Wisconsin (6-0) has yet to lose this season and none of their games have been
close and now they face a hot Michigan State (5-1) team that has won 3 straight
including beating 11th ranked Michigan last week. The last time the Badgers
lost a Big 10 game it was playing the Spartans at Michigan State. MSU has
the nation’s 4th ranked defense and they will need to play good D against a
Wisconsin squad that is the highest scoring team in the nation and has a great
passing and rushing offense.

Last Saturday Wisconsin killed Indiana 59-7 and Michigan State beat Michigan
28-14.

On the season the Badgers are 5-0-1 ATS and has an O/U record of 4-2 and
MSU is 4-2 ATS and has an O/U record of 1-5.

In an interesting betting trend the underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 games
between the Badgers and the Spartans.

Wisconsin QB Russell Wilson is a legit Heisman contender and the Badgers
have the nation’s 31st ranked passing offense. Wilson leads the Big 10 in passing
yards and he has 14 TD and only 1 INT. His WR corps is solid led by Nick Toon
(25 rec 447 yards 6 TD) and Jared Abbrederis (24 rec 391 yards 2 TD), who are
each averaging over 16 yards per catch this season. Russell and the pass attack
will really be tested this Saturday facing a Spartans’ pass defense that leads the
nation and has 8 picks. On top of that MSU has a great pass rush ranking 8th in
the nation with 21 sacks.

The RB duo of Montee Ball and James White, who have combined for 1,069
yards and 20 TD, lead Wisconsin’s 7th ranked rushing offense. Michigan State
held Michigan to only 82 rushing yards last week and if they can stuff the run and
keep Wilson from making huge plays down the field they will win this game.

Wisconsin not only has a great offense, but their defense ranks 3rd in the nation.
They are better defending the run than the pass so MSU QB Kirk Cousins must
have a good game and avoid the getting picked off. He has some solid targets
and the Spartans’ passing offense ranks 46th in the nation. I mentioned Cousins
getting picked off and that is key for this game, as he did not throw an INT last
week, but in his previous 3 games he had 4 INT.

Michigan State RB Edwin Baker was stellar last week rushing for 167 yards
against Michigan, but he will be facing a Badgers’ run defense that ranks 3rd in
the nation.

In some other betting trends for this Big 10 match up the Badgers have covered
the spread in 5 of their last 7 road games, have covered the spread in their last
8 conference games, and in their last 5 road games the posted total has gone
Over.

The Spartans have only covered the spread 2 times in their last 8 games as
a road underdog, have covered in 7 of their last 9 games facing a team with a
winning record, and in their last 7 home games the total has gone Under.

In the last 8 games between Wisconsin and MSU the total has gone Over 7
times.
