Alabama (10-1) moved up in the polls with the shocking loss of Oklahoma State and they are in line to play in the BCS title game if they can beat Auburn this Saturday. The Tide only has one loss on the season and they have the nation’s top-ranked defense.

Auburn (7-4) may not play in a bowl game, but they can really improve their bowl positioning with a home win over Alabama. However, that is easier said than done, as the Tigers have been crushed in their last 3 games facing ranked teams and their big gun on offense in RB Michael Dyer (1,194 yards 10 TD) really struggled in the last 2 losses to LSU and Georgia. On top of that the Tigers’ run defense only ranks 98th in the nation and will be facing a Tide rushing offense that ranks 16th in the nation.

In their last games neither team played a good opponent and Auburn beat Samford 35-16 and Alabama beat Georgia Southern 45-21.

This season Alabama is 7-3 ATS and has an O/U record of 7-3 and Auburn is at 4-7 ATS with an O/U record of 5-6.

Dyer must get back on track in this game and move the chains with his legs since the Auburn passing offense only ranks 106th in the nation. QB Clint Moseley took over the starting duties a few weeks ago, but he cannot carry the team with his arm. The Tide rank #1 in the nation in both pass defense and run defense, so the Tigers have their work cut out for them.

The Tigers’ struggling run defense will be facing Tide RB Trent Richardson, who has rushed for 1,380 yards with 20 TD and is Alabama’s 2nd leading receiver with 26 receptions for 322 yards and 2 TD. Last week facing Samford the Tigers gave up 149 yards on the ground and in their last 2 losses to LSU and Georgia they gave up nearly 500 rushing yards.

Richardson is the key guy the Tigers’ D has to focus on, but they also have to play good pass defense facing QB AJ McCarron and his main target in WR in Marquis Maze (52 rec 609 yards 1 TD). Auburn has a decent pass defense, but their pass rush only ranks 64th in the nation with 20 sacks.

In some betting trends for this big SEC match up the Crimson Tide have covered the spread in 8 of their last 11 games, have covered the spread 5 times in their last 7 games when playing a team with a winning record, and in their last 5 games the posted total has gone Under 4 times.

The Tigers have covered the spread 6 times in their last 6 games when they are a home underdog and in their last 5 games when playing a team that has a winning record the posted total has gone Under 4 times.

In the last 7 games between these SEC rivals the home team has covered the spread 5 times.
