Dallas Cowboys New York Giants Pick Against the Spread

Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants Pick against the Spread

NFL Football Point Spread: Giants -3 O/U 46.5

Sunday January 1, 2012 8:20 PM EST NBC

With all the playoff scenarios out there one in the NFC is the easiest to understand, as the winner of the Giants (8-7) and Cowboys (8-7) game will win the NFC East and head to the post-season while the loser will b watching the playoffs from home. One big key in this game, obviously, is the play of Dallas QB Tony Romo and even though he has a hand injury he will be under center for this HUGE game. The Giants have won 2 of their last 3 games after losing 4 straight while Dallas has struggled as the season draws to a close losing 3 out of their last 4 games.

In the first match up of the season between these 2 teams a few weeks back in Dallas the Giants beat the Cowboys 37-34 in a shootout.

In their last games the Giants beat the New York Jets 29-14 and the Cowboys were at home and lost to the Philadelphia Eagles 20-7.

On the season the Giants are 7-7-1 ATS and they have an O/U record of 8-6-1 and the Cowboys are 5-9-1 ATS and they have an O/U record of 6-9.

Romo has a great WR corps and TE Jason Witten and it will be interesting to see how much his hand injury affects him. He passed for 321 yards with 4 TD and 0 INT in the first match up with the Giants and there is a good chance he will have another big game facing New York and their 27th ranked pass defense.

Against New York a few weeks back Dallas RB DeMarco Murray broke his foot and Felix Jones came in and rushed for over 100 yards. Murray was put on IR and is out for the season and Jones will have to have another solid game and help the injured Romo out. While the Giants’ run defense only ranks 22nd in the league they have played much better in the last few weeks.

Eli Manning has had to carry the offense this season since the rushing attack of the G-Men ranks dead last in the league. Manning has had a HUGE season and one of the main reasons is the play of his great young WR duo of Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz. In the first game against Dallas Manning had 400 passing yards and will be facing a Cowboys’ pass defense that ranks 23rd in the league.

It would be great for the Giants if Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs could help Manning out, but they have struggled all season and will be going up against a Dallas run defense that ranks 7th in the league.

This season New York has 42 sacks and Dallas has 40 and pass pressure will be vital in this game for each team.

In some other betting trends for this big NFC East match up the Cowboys have covered the spread in 5 of their last 6 games as a road underdog and in their last 5 games on the road the posted total has gone Under.

The Giants are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games at home and in their last 10 games against teams that have a winning record the posted total has gone Over 8 times.

In the last 5 games between these 2 division rivals the Giants have covered the spread 4 times.
