Florida State could not have gotten off to a better start, as they are 3-0, have the nation’s 2nd highest scoring offense, and the nation’s top ranked defense. However this game facing 10th ranked Clemson will be their first legit game, as they have faced Murray State, Savannah State, and Wake Forrest, who are far from college football powerhouses.

Clemson is also 3-0 and they had a good win over Auburn in the season opener. However, while they rank in the top 30 on both rushing and passing offense their run defense has not played very well and that is a big concern for the Tigers.

Last week each teams had very easy wins with Florida State blanking Wake Forrest 52-0 and Clemson beating Furman 41-7.

On the season Clemson is 1-2 ATS with an Over/Under record of 1-1 and FSU is also 1-1 ATS with an Over/Under record of 1-0.

Clemson beat Florida State last season by 5 points (35-30), but the last match up between these 2 ACC rivals at FSU the Seminoles came out on top. With FSU beating Wake Forrest last week they are 1-0 in ACC play while this is the first conference game for Clemson.

Florida State QB EJ Manuel has looked good so far and has not had to play all of the Seminoles games, as none of them has been remotely close. His main targets are Kenny Shaw and Kelvin Benjamin and each of these WR’s is averaging over 14 yards per reception. The Tigers rank 32nd in the nation in pass defense and they have an athletic secondary.

Chris Thompson and James Wilder Jr. have each rushed for at least 220 yards this season and they are a solid 1-2 punch that may be a big problem for the Tigers and their 82nd ranked run defense.

Clemson’s offense is a well-balanced one with QB Tajh Boyd and RB Andre Ellington (328 yards 4 TD. Boyd is also the Tigers’ 2nd leading rusher and he may have to use his legs to avoid the FSU pass rush, which ranks 10th in the nation in sacks. The Seminoles’ secondary must keep tabs on Clemson WR DeAndre Hopkins, who has 328 receiving yards and 4 TD and he is the big gun on the outside and the next leading Tigers’ WR only has 106 yards.

Clemson vs. Florida State Betting Trends

Clemson has only covered the spread in 1 of their last 5 games against a team with a winning record and in their last 10 road games the posted total has gone Under 10 times.

Florida State has covered the spread in 7 of their last 10 games, 5 of their last 7 ACC games, and In their last 7 games overall the posted total has gone Under.

In one interesting betting trend the Seminoles have failed to cover the spread in 6 of their last 7 games facing the Tigers.
