Doumit's9th inning HR helps Pirates down Reds

Ryan Doumit cracked a two-out solo home run in the ninth to decide a well-pitched game on both sides, as the Pirates edged Cincinnati, 2-1, at Great American Ball Park.

Paul Maholm matched Cincinnati starter Mike Leake over seven shutout innings, yielding six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Neil Walker, recalled before the game from Triple-A Indianapolis, had an RBI double in the eighth.

Joel Hanrahan (1-0) blew the lead by allowing Brandon Phillips' solo homer in the bottom of the eighth, but wound up with the win. Octavio Dotel came on to get his 10th save in the ninth.

Leake was dealt an unfortunate no-decision on a ball lost in the lights that led to the game's first run. The rookie remained unbeaten on the year, however, charged with 10 hits and a single run in 7 1/3 innings.

The Reds took the opener to this four-game series on Monday, 7-5, and were handed just their fifth loss in the last 17 games. Nick Masset (3-3) gave up Doumit's homer and took the loss.
