NCAA Football Betting Pick

The Florida Gators begin the post-Tim Tebow era Saturday at home in Gainesville Florida against the Miami Ohio Redhawks. The Gators begin the season as the fourth ranked team in the nation and football betting enthusiast are salivating at the Gators home opener.

The NCAAF Odds have the Florida Gators as -35-point favorites over the Miami Ohio Redhawks. The game total is 52 points.

Miami Ohio Redhawks +35 -110
Florida Gators -35 -110

Game Total 52
Location: Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field – Gainesville FL
Game Time: 12:00pm

With Tim Tebow in the NFL, the quarterback job for the Gators falls to sophomore John Brantley and much of Florida’s season is dependent on how well Brantley can deal with replacing the legend. While he only made it on the field in limited action last season, he was effective. Brantley threw for 410 yards and seven touchdowns with no interceptions.

Brantley will have help on offense with Deonte Thompson ready to make a jump up and Chris Rainey making the move from tailback to wide receiver. Jeff Demps will be back in the backfield after gaining 745 on 99 carries last season. Demps is a speedster, he is the NCAA 60 and 100-meter champion, if he can find a hole, and he’s taking it to the house.

Defensively the team lost six starters from last year’s tremendous defense that allowed just 12.4 points per game in 2009. While the defense took a hit, it’s still strong enough to shut down their opponents.

The Miami Ohio Redhawks won just one game last season, finishing at 1-11 after their offense finished with the second worst rushing defense in the nation last season.

Tasked with moving the Redhawks’ offense is quarterback Zac Dysert, Dysert is clearly the best player on a limited team. While the team running game was horrible last season, Dysert had to pick up the slack. This year he has a little bit of help with DeMarco Paine transferring in from Iowa and sophomore tailback Danny Green looking greatly improved from last year.

In an intra-squad scrimmage, the Redhawks offense was effective at getting the defense off balance and scoring from various spots of the field. Of course, this could say more about the bad defense of the Redhawks rather than the improvement of the offense.

Some football betting prognosticators have the predicted the Gators will win this game by 60 points but that seems a little excessive. I’ll stick to the seven touchdown NCAAF point spread the odds makers have posted.
