On the first day of action West Virginia beat out ACC team Clemson Tigers, Butler beat Old Dominion with a buzzer beating layup, Louisville got upstet by Morehead state, 10 Penn State lost to number 7 Temple, number 13 lost in the last seconds to number 4 Kentucky Wildcats, Pittsburgh defeated UNC Asheville., Richmond won over Vandy, San Diego State over Northern Colorado, UCSB fell to University of Florida Gators, BYU 74 Wofford 66, UCONN 81 Bucknell 52, Belmont 58 Wisconsin 72, Michigan State lost by two points to the UCLA Bruins, Cincy on top of Mizzo, 11 Gonzaga over St. Johns, and Kansas State winning over Utah state to wrap up day 1 of March Madness action. 
 
2011 marks the first time ever in NCAA college championship history that there will be 68 teams playing opposed to the typical 64. This is the 73rd edition of the dance and the NCAA hoops action kicks off on 3-15-2011. With the championship game taking place this year in Houston, Texas on April 4th 2011 at Reliant Stadium. 

31 teams automatically get entered into the tournament by winning their respective conferences while the others get bids from the election committee which is finally determined on Selection Sunday before the tournament kicks off. The teams are ranked in fields from 1-68 and divided up into 17 teams for 4 regions in which they will be playing their games in. Than the final four teams are qualified to face off in the new "First Four" ever. Whomever, wins the first four advances to play a higher seeded opponent. 2 of the 16th and 17th seeded teams face off against one another and after winning that game they face the top seeded team for the respective division. The final 2 at large teams will play one another in the first 2 round games with the winners facing a 3-5 seeded team. It has been said that this expansion was chosen because the sponsors wanted to milk more money out of the extremely lucrative college basketball championships.

Arkansas-Little-Rock Trojans for winning the Sun Belt Conferenc e tournament
Belmont - For winning the Atlantic Sun tourney
Butler - Who made it to the finals last year (2010) and lost to Duke 
Gonzaga, Indiana State, Moorehead State, Oakland, St. Peters, Wofford, and University of North Carolina Asheville.
